News from Dassault – on SolidWorks - no more 32 bit OS -

News from Dassault – on SolidWorks -  no more 32 bit OS -

I quote from our email from SolidWorks:
"In line with our customer’s large scale adoption of the faster and more reliable 64-bit environment, SolidWorks 2014 will be the last release to support 32-bit Operating Systems. SolidWorks 2015, will not install on a 32-bit Operating System (OS).
Using SolidWorks on 64-bit Windows 7 or Windows 8 operating systems provides many significant advantages over 32-bit Windows 7 or Vista such as:
  • Support for more memory (over 4 GB RAM) allowing the creation of larger and more complex models
  • Improved stability
  • Better performance to increase overall design and modeling speed
Relevance to Partners
SolidWorks will continue to provide the following components for 32-bit environments in the releases of SolidWorks 2014 and 2015.
  • eDrawings ActiveX Control
  • SolidWorks Document Manager
However, these components will no longer be supported on 32-bit platforms with the release of SolidWorks 2016 or beyond.
We strongly recommend that any Partner products using the APIs from SolidWorks 2014 or before, or any of its family of components, such as Routing, Costing, Simulation, Sustainability, Toolbox, etc., be updated to run in 64-bit environments.
SolidWorks has begun to announce the discontinuation of 32-bit Operating System (OS) support to the rest of the SolidWorks Community.
For SolidWorks 2013 SP4 and SolidWorks 2014 Beta 1, 32-bit users will be notified about the 32-bit end of life plan in the Installation Manager and during SolidWorks 2014 launch.
As the announcement spreads throughout the SolidWorks community, it will be essential that we all communicate with our resellers, technology partners, and customers to help facilitate making the move to a 64-bit Operating System (OS)."

Thanks!
