SOLIDWORKS beginner tutorials - Interface 101
Looking for a place to start with SOLIDWORKS software? Check out my
Essentials training for beginner SOLIDWORKS tutorials (2015 and earlier
versions are available). Here is a link to part one of a training document with videos about the SOLIDWORKS interface:
http://bit.ly/1CPNYv4.
My SOLIDWORKS beginner training videos cover how to use the interface, customize the tool display, parametric modeling basics, how to sketch objects, how to constrain your geometry so it's appropriate for modeling features and parts that can be precisely manufactured, how to create sketch-based features and other features, how to combine these features into parts, and how to assemble your parts into a working model. There's a lot of material!
What should you learn about when studying the interface?
- creating new part documents, new assembly documents, new drawing documents, and when to use each type of document.
- how to choose an appropriate template
- how to choose your units of measurement
- what the graphic area is and what you do there (this is where you perform most of your actions, in all environments--part modeling, assembly design and drawing production).
- what the ribbon is, how it is organized, how you add and remove tools, and which tools are located where.
- what the task pane is
- what the feature manager design tree is and how to use it
- the usefulness of context-sensitive menus in SOLIDWORKS
- the configuration manager, the properties manager, the dimension expert manager, and the display manager, and what you can do from each of these tabs.
- SOLIDWORKS help and callouts; how to modify these.
- How to access the command manager to modify your toolbars.
- How to access the Options window so you can make changes to System Options (software-wide) and Document options (document-specific selections).
